The new headquarters of Alperia & Edyna in Meran/Merano is ambitious – both architecturally and technically. The tender for its construction was won by a consortium of local companies, which included ATZWANGER, Plattner, Obrist, and Pichler projects. “We were responsible for all the mechanical systems in the building, which were designed to maximize technological standards, energy efficiency, and user comfort,” says Luca Ciprian, head of building-HVAC division.
Heating, cooling & ventilation
The heating and cooling system meets the highest standards. “For the comfort of the offices and nearly 300 employees, we have installed a combination of metal radiant ceilings with six-way valves for independent room-by-room regulation, underfloor heating and numerous fan coils,” emphasises the expert. In addition, there is a ventilation plant comprising six air handling units and several heat recovery units to provide air exchange. “Everything is custom-made because standard modules don't work with the building's elliptical shape,” adds Ciprian.
Finally, for safety reasons, we provided the data centre with a redundant hydronic cooling system.
Sanitary facilities & rainwater harvesting
Our team at ATZWANGER also implemented the drinking water and wastewater system, including the rainwater recovery system for both irrigation and toilet flushing. Decorative highlight: the water treatment system for the reflecting pool between the two buildings. With a depth of 30 cm, the water mirror covers an impressive 2,000 m2 surface area!
Fire protection system & building automation
The contract also included the installation of a complete fire prevention system with a network of hydrants for civilian buildings, while an inert gas system was supplied for the data centre. Thanks to the monitoring system, all of the building's technological systems can be controlled directly from a computer.
To illustrate the scale of this extraordinary team effort, Ciprian cites a few figures: “We installed 25 kilometres of pipes and 5,000 square metres of ventilation ducts.”
“This is a prestigious project for ATZWANGER, but also for me personally. "I am particularly proud to be the project manager for such a significant contract, especially as someone from Meran/Merano," he explains.
