A chemical incident at the swimming pool in Neumarkt/Egna caused a stir last summer and brought the swimming season to an abrupt end. Significant damage occurred in the technical room - not only to the water treatment system but also to the building structure. Pumps, fittings, valves, analysis devices and the control cabinet were all affected.
“The damage was too extensive to be repaired quickly,” explains Peter Mittermaier, who is responsible for pool water technology at ATZWANGER. This meant the municipality had to initiate a tender process and observe the required deadlines, which left a very tight schedule before the new bathing season began.
“Together with Zöggeler Bau, we were awarded the contract and began dismantling work immediately,” he recalls. “This made it possible to renovate and adapt the building structure.” All damaged components were replaced — including the entire mechanical system, the pumps, and all electrical engineering, such as the control cabinet with new programming and wiring.
“The biggest challenge was sourcing materials and completing the installation within such a short timeframe,” the expert emphasizes. “In addition, measures were taken to minimize the risk of a similar accident.” Structural modifications were made, along with adjustments to the filling system. The storage and handling of chemicals have now been reorganized and made significantly safer.
The work was completed on schedule on June 28. “With this, we at ATZWANGER have made a key contribution to ensuring that the bathing season in Neumarkt/Egna could go ahead as planned,” Mittermaier says with satisfaction.
