ATZWANGER builds for tomorrow's skilled workers

New building for the Marconi and Lèvinas vocational schools in Meran/Merano

The Italian vocational school for crafts, industry and trade ‘Guglielmo Marconi’ and the vocational school for social professions ‘Emmanuel Lèvinas’ are now housed together in a new building in Meran-Untermais/Merano-Maia Bassa.

We at ATZWANGER played a key role in the construction and supplied the entire heating, air conditioning and ventilation system. Our specialists also installed the sanitary and fire protection systems.

The new school complex was completed in just under two years in collaboration with the construction company Plattner AG/SpA. The building will be officially handed over before Christmas. The academic activities of the 'G. Marconi' Institute will begin in January 2026 while those at the 'E. Levinas' vocational school will start in the 2026/27 academic year.

For the heated rooms in the building, ENERGYTECH, the planning office, had generally specified radiant ceiling heating or underfloor heating with a ventilation system – professionally installed by our employees, of course. These radiation systems and a dehumidification unit also provide cooling. Mechanical ventilation also ensures a pleasant indoor climate, primarily through hygienic air exchange and humidity control.

The heat required for heating is obtained from Meran/Merano's local heating network and transferred to the technical room via a transfer station.

On the other hand, our refrigeration machines guarantee cooling in summer. Wall hydrants with fire-fighting fittings have been installed in the classroom area, and fire extinguishers have been provided throughout the rest of the building for immediate use.

Students at the Marconi School now have access to eight classrooms and 17 workshops with changing rooms. Meanwhile, students at the Lèvinas School have three classrooms and six labs. In addition, each school has three administrative rooms, as well as a gym, library and multi-purpose room for everyone to use. Best indoor climate included.

“It's great to be involved in a construction project where future colleagues are being trained,” emphasises Florian Huber, project manager at ATZWANGER.
