The system comprised an activated sludge purification plant with upstream de-nitrification and simultaneous phosphate precipitation, anaerobic sludge treatment and a combined heat and power unit using biogas motors. The system was completely covered to minimise the influence of very low winter temperatures (as extreme as -30°C) and achieve better integration within a highly touristed area. The exhaust air is treated and cleaned.
