Safety comes first

For us at ATZWANGER, health and safety at work is more than just a legal obligation – it is our top priority, which is why we have a dedicated department responsible for all matters relating to safety, health and the environment.

Its responsibilities include training all team members, medical surveillance, providing personal protective equipment, and maintaining and inspecting all work equipment – from cranes and tools to measuring instruments. Subcontractors are also assessed and supervised in accordance with the relevant standards. In addition, site safety plans are drawn up, risk assessments are continuously updated, and installation teams are organised and monitored. In addition, the department is responsible for maintaining key certifications such as ISO 45001, 14001 and 3834/2, F-Gas, and for supporting other certifications such as PDR125, ISO 9001 and the EcoVadis assessment platform (sustainability, ethics and the environment).

The Department of Resources, Health and Safety, and the Environment is headed by Robert Trojer. Together with Andrea Obkircher, they keep track of all deadlines, qualifications and training courses – with the help of a specialised software. “Right from the recruitment stage, we check what qualifications and training a candidate has. Any missing medical visits or training courses are organised straight away,” explains Obkircher. “This is because no one is allowed to enter a construction site without the relevant proof of suitability and training.”

2,446 course hours, 278 participants in 2025

She ensures that the compulsory training courses at ATZWANGER are always up to date, practical and aligned with the relevant requirements. “The courses must offer added value; simply sitting through them is pointless.”

The numbers from 2025 highlight the importance of this initiative: 101 courses covering around 30 different topics were held, with a total of 278 participants.

Safety officers & safety spokespersons

As ATZWANGER’s safety officer, the department also ensures that all relevant information for every construction site project is available digitally and kept up to date at all times. “Using a QR code and a link, anyone interested can access all the relevant information – from the client and the assigned team members to the certifications and the site safety plan,” explains Trojer.

In addition, there is a worker’s safety representative who is elected every three years. They act as the “spokesperson” for all employees and are in regular contact with management and the safety officer.
