ATZWANGER as reference company for pool construction

We received a technical delegation from Therme Group

ATZWANGER was recently visited by representatives of the 'Therme Group', long standing collaborator and International Wellbeing leader. The Group operates thermal wellbeing resorts in Europe, like Therme Erding and Therme Bucharest but also has currently in different phases of planning thermal wellbeing projects in Germany, Canada, USA, the United Arab Emirates, S Korea and England.

In 2016 Therme Bucharest became the latest operational project build at LEED Platinum level of this exciting wellbeing concept.

Atzwanger, was instrumental in delivering some key aspects of the Therme Bukarest project-pools, the water treatment for the slide area as well as the state-of-the-art geothermal plant that ensures that the Therme operates 67% of the time free of fossil fuels,' says Peter Mittermaier, the ATZWANGER project manager responsible. It was an enormous challenge. After all, it was the first project in Romania, a major contract in a new country with different and strict water regulations. The challenge was intensified by the condensed delivery timeline," he recalls. The first phase (more than 90 % of the project was opened after a construction period of just under two years.

ATZWANGER team designed and realised an 850 sqm indoor and outdoor thermal pool with numerous attractions. It requires a circulation capacity of 840 m³/h," says Mittermaier. In the Family area Atzwanger delivered a 25 m wave pool, and a facility with 16 water slides that is credited to be the most spectacular indoor ride programme in Europe. The Palm area features various mineral and aroma pools with a capacity of 120 people and with numerous health benefits - Salt, Calcium, Selenium etc.

“In 2 years Therme added an outdoor relaxation pool in the Palm with an extensive swim up bar and numerous attractions (back showers, Jacuzzis, and wall jets, water beds)," recalls the project manager, and an outdoor summer playing ground based on water attraction in the Family area. But the most innovative project was the State-of-the-art geothermal plant that Atwzanger delivered for Therme Bukarest. This has become the “heart of the project”. It extracts water from 3 km at 75 Celsius and it is used both for heat requirements and for bathing for the project. The geothermal powerplant and advanced water treatment systems deployed at Therme Bukarest were key elements that ensured Therme Bukarest to receive the maximum score for water usage in the LEED platinum certification.

Finally, Therme Bucharest boasts a total water surface area of over 2000 m². At peak times, the facility is visited by more than 10,000 people a day.

As a testament of the long and enduring partnership with Therme Group for designing and delivering Therme Bucharest and planning and designing other future projects ATZWANGER has positioned itself as a refence company for such complex and sophisticated projects.

Representatives of the "Therme Group" discussed further projects with our experts at the company's headquarters in Bozen/Bolzano, who were able to contribute their expertise as preferred designers and contractors in delivering the next generation of Thermal projects in leading cities of the World.

“We know what it takes to guarantee a carefree bathing experience," says Mittermaier.
